Citizen App: Crowdsourcing Good Samaritans

Previously known as Vigilante, the Citizen App has been growing its user base since 2016. The name changed occurred roughly a year after inception to promote a more positive connotation to an application that provides immeasurable utility and numerous benefits. Today, over 7 million users rely on this application. The Citizen App provides real-time safety alerts along with access to verified 911 information. The application also offers a feature known as SafeTrace for COVID-19 contact tracing.

Citizen App has proven to be an effective tool against crime and mishaps. The users of the application helped to located an abducted Manhattan boy in 2018. A year later, 34 Citizen App users live-streamed the fire at the Trump Tower in Manhattan. The application empowers the public by providing access to emergency response systems and 911 communications via concise audio alerts to anyone within a quarter mile from an incident. In addition, vital features such as live video streams and incident mapping provide for enhanced functionality via a seamless integration to the host mobile device.
